Add a search engine

To add a search engine, you need to know the search link to the torrent website.

Typically, you can follow the following steps to get the search link for a web search engine:

1. Search on the Internet and find a torrent website, open it with a common web browser.

2. On the torrent website's search box, enter a keyword and search.

3. In the address edit box, you will see the search link.

For example, if the torrent website is: http://www.google.com

Torrent search engines

A torrent search engine is a website which provides torrent files or torrent magnet links.

As stated in Wiki, "There are many different BitTorrent websites. They typically contain multiple torrent files and an index of those files. In a typical scenario, a user would enter such a site and browse or search for the content they desire, based on the torrent descriptions posted at the site by other users. If a torrent with the sought content is found, the user could download that torrent."

Adding search engines to the app is not necessary if you prefer using a web browser to visit the torrent website to search torrents directly. You can click on the magnet link or the http link to the torrent file on the website, to initiate a torrent download.

Adding search engines to the app, and using them inside the app, enable you to switch to different search engines quickly. You may also use the magnet link menu to find magnet links with ease.

If the search link is a RSS link, the search results will be listed in a clean, simple list, rather than displaying in a crowded page.

About RSS engine

Usually, the search link you see in the address box of your browser is NOT a RSS search link. Some websites support RSS searching, while others don't. To know the RSS search link, you have to read the help on the website, or contact the administrator of the website.

4. Copy the search link to engine editor's search link.

5. Replace the keyword with {0}

Select multiple items

The app supports selecting multiple items in most of the list views to operate the items in a batch mode.

To enable the multiple selection mode, tap the left edge of a row in the list.

Delete downloaded files

Tap the left edge of a file row and select the files, and select "Delete" menu.

Q: How can I transfer downloaded files to PC/laptop?

A:

On Windows phone 8.1, you can choose to download files directly to a Windows Phone hub like SD card, then you can copy files to PC by connecting your phone to PC via USB cable.

On 8.0, Microsoft does not allow you to visit app's data from PC via USB cable. But we offer HTTP sharing for downloaded data. Enable the HTTP share, open a web browser on the pc and visit the IP indicated when sharing, you will be able to view and download the files to your PC.

Also you may save music files to Music Hub, mp3 will be appended to the files automatically, if you save non-music files to Hub,  the files won't be recognized by your phone, but still can be seen from your PC when your phone is connected to PC.

Another way is to upload your files to SkyDrive and download on your PC.

Q: Can wpTorrent download files to SD card?

A: Yes on Windows Phone 8.1. But not on 8.0 due to OS's limitation.

Q: Can wpTorrent download in background?

A: NO.

Windows Phone background task does not allow long time running (10 minutes at most). So background task cannot be used in torrent downloading.

Download will be paused if the app does not run in foreground.

But wpTorrent supports running when screen is locked: If you did not enable it when the app first run, go to the settings and enable the option.

Q: My downloaded videos can't be played, why?

A:

Only videos in formats supported by your phone hardware can be played, the most common supported formats are mp4, wmv, and some avi. Please refer to your phone manual and the following link to check the supported video formats:
